Releasing Perfection

I had a very small window today to complete my Primal Kitchen® Collagen Treats recipe book, write a blog post and record a podcast. I was quickly becoming frustrated with my inability to make my recipe book perfect. I was encountering so much resistance in the quest for perfection.

I finally decided to step away from the computer for a bit and take a hike. But then I started putting on exercise clothes and immediately taking them off; everything seemed too tight or too unflattering. I seriously could not get out the door to engage in my very favorite activity because I was afraid that someone I knew would see me and judge my appearance!

Have you ever felt paralyzed by the quest for perfection?

I can obviously relate.

Releasing perfection is a part of my journey. When I feel paralyzed by the fear of not being perfect I try to:

1. Recognize it as an observer. I say to myself, "Oh, that's interesting. This is popping up again."

2. Get quiet. For me, this usually means a walk in the woods without technology.

3. When I'm ready, I remind myself of a few truths:

My body is healthy, happy and strong.

I am creative and inspired.

I am free to share with love and not hold back with fear.

There is no such thing as perfection; I am exactly where I need to be right now.

What truths can you embrace when you feel that you are stuck in the fear of imperfection? If you don't know, I encourage you to get quiet and curious.
